Onto the next adventure

Week 10 of Connect: Nukko Lake

After meeting bi-weekly since the group started in November, we recently wrapped up our Connect: Nukko Lake group.

Although it has been a little bit since we last got together due to illnesses, we picked up right where we left off in the last session! As a recap, the kids built egg baskets for an egg drop, and during this session, we put them to the test in an egg drop!

The group was given an extra 10-15 minutes to finish their egg-drop baskets and add any last-minute finishing touches. Once the kids finished their baskets, it was time to put them to the test! We headed outside and dropped them from the highest point of the playground, which was the very top of the slide. After each kid dropped their egg baskets, we went back inside to check them. Lo and behold, 4 out of the 5 eggs survived the drop! The boys were really proud, and even the child whose egg broke was not too disappointed and still had fun during the challenge. Once we cleaned up, we had a pizza party and cinnamon buns!

We talked about the challenge and how it's important to not be too disappointed if something doesn't work out, and how to grow through failure. We also spoke about how it's healthy and important to feel proud of yourself when your hard work pays off, and always remember to celebrate yourself in those moments.

To wrap up our final 15 minutes, I asked the group about their favourite activities of the year; some of which included the popsicle stick boat challenge, and Lego challenge from early on in the year. We also spoke about how the group felt about moving on to high school in September. The group shared lots of stories and thoughts about high school, and then we all said our goodbyes.

Although the group is over, I am so proud of each child for their growth throughout the group.
